The constraints of family life, employment and church community life, mean that a tremendous amount of the shaping of the young person's mind is delegated to school. For this to work as an extension of family life and parenting, it is important that a Christian school reinforces and expands the home values and teaching; otherwise confusion is caused.
The principle of parental authority means that a Christian school cannot teach effectively anything which a child's parent has not valued or initiated as part of family life e.g. treatment of others, respect for the environment, an enquiring mind and a love for God's word. Parental values are the most influential in a child's life.
The school as part of the Church community is working out a biblical, Christ centred model of education on the parents' behalf. It is important that each successive body of parents play their part in the process of discovering how and what we should be teaching the next generation. This work of developing the school runs alongside the enjoyment and advantages of fresh approaches to education already in place. The more parents are involved in developments, the more their level of understanding and confidence will grow.
