Year 2
Science and Geography Trip to Thurstaston
May 2023
Year 2 had an exciting day of outdoor exploration at Thurstaston. They enjoyed pond dipping and explored the various features of the beach.
During the pond dipping activity, the students had the opportunity to observe and learn about the diverse aquatic life that resides in the ponds. They used nets and containers to carefully catch and examine creatures such as tadpoles, water insects, and small fish. This hands-on experience allowed them to gain a deeper understanding of the ecosystem and the different organisms that inhabit it.
At the beach, the students engaged in a range of activities to explore the unique features of the coastal environment. They examined seashells, rocks, and pebbles, identifying different types and discussing their origins.
Frogs
May 2023
Year 2 explored the life cycle of a frog, observing its development from eggs, tadpole to frog. They also created non-fiction books, showcasing their understanding and sharing interesting facts about frogs. This project enhanced their scientific knowledge and fostered their creativity.
Monet
May 2023
In Year 2, our students recreated Monet's Garden paintings, drawing inspiration from Claude Monet's vibrant and impressionistic style. They studied his works, learned about his techniques, and then expressed their creativity by painting their own interpretations of Monet's Garden. This project enhanced their artistic skills, encouraged observation of nature, and fostered an appreciation for art history. The students' paintings showcased their talent and imagination, reflecting the joy and beauty of Monet's work.
Making Healthy Soup
January 2023
As part of their Design Technology Curriculum, Year 2 children used safe tool techniques to create a delicious healthy winter soup. They followed instructions to make the soup and enjoyed eating it afterwards.
Christmas Clay Pots
December 2022
Year 2 had a lot of fun moulding, rolling and shaping the clay to make tea light candle holders. This is part of our work looking at lights and at how, at this time of year, we remember that Jesus came as a light into the darkness.
Victorians
November 2022
This term Year 2 children have been learning about homes in the Victorian Era. They enjoyed being 'History Detectives' and handling and describing artefacts from the past. The children had great fun dressing up in Victorian costumes and playing in our Victorian home, acting out wash day. They have also learnt some fantastic facts about Queen Victoria.
Ferry Trip
October 2022
Year Two finished the term with a trip on the ferry to consolidate their learning on this term's topic 'Rivers'. The children enjoyed spotting the famous landmarks along the waterfront which they have been learning about in Geography and Art. Then we went to the 'Museum of Liverpool' were the children particularly enjoyed taking part in 'Little Liverpool' workshop. They had great fun using nets to fish out anything that pollutes the river and sailing boats along the River Mersey.
Bible Explorers
September 2022
This term Year Two have been learning about the story of Abraham and in particular God's promise to Abraham to "give him as many descendants as the stars in the sky". The children decorated cakes with 100s and 1000s to represent the stars and then tried to count them! Later in the term the children went on a treasure hunt to find key Bible verses in the Bible containing God's promises which were then displayed on stars in the sky.
